NEW YOU – ONE STEP TOWARDS SELF

Yourself, You, For Your Own, when things come to our own betterment, we make it sound like ok I’ll do it later on, and then later doesn’t come. It initially gets postponed and then finally canceled. And now since when WORK FROM HOME has started, we all have started to sit and eat with an excuse that we can’t go outside and when we feel suffocated while working at home and our different flavored tongue demands every day, our hidden chef appears and so is the hidden tummy.

One step towards self means the incorporation of any new healthy change in yourself with consistency to make it sustainable. For example, drinking 1 glass of milk and reducing caffeine intake to 2 cups a day, a small step, that we follow for 1 week, can become a habit. But we are not able to retain this habit and after 2 or 3 months we stick to our old routine. This happens with everyone. Then what is the right way of intervention?

The answer is, intervention is not at all easy, because sometimes we are low and sometimes, we are happy and every mood comes with food. We need to think about how to deal with all these situations along with developing new habits.

So, let’s talk about, how to develop a new habit and incorporate it.

1. EATING A HEALTHY BREAKFAST-

Skipping the most important meal of the day is one of the most practiced habits, try to keep healthy and easy options when you are unable to cook, like muesli, milk, fruits, dry fruits, instant options of upma, poha, vermicelli, though few of these are packaged but are far better from skipping meals or eating something fried in mornings.

2. DAILY WALK –

Try to walk daily for at least 5 km a day. It can be in a nearby park or a terrace, before or after meals to help you control your weight and reduce your daily stress.

3. EATING SALAD AND FRUIT –

Try to eat salad and fruit daily, eat the fruit for breakfast or as your midmorning snack, and salad at noon and dinner. Before eating your meals finish your salad first, it will take care of your gut, heart, and overall health. When you are in a café or restaurant, start with soup as eating raw outside can be infectious.

4. PRESERVATIVES-

Avoid eating things that are loaded with preservatives like salt in chutneys, papad, chips, sauces. Sugary items like jams, jellies, marmalade, etc., you can enjoy them but preferably in smaller quantities and less frequently. These used to play with our taste buds and we crave for more spicy and sweet foods in turn.

5. DRINK WATER –

Water, just a basic drink without any preservatives, no extra calories, keeps us hydrated, nourish us with essential minerals, makes our skin glow, and keeps us away from overeating. At least try to drink 2 to 3 liters of water daily.

Incorporating these good habits is a start to identifying and nourishing yourself towards a new YOU. A balanced Diet, Maintenance of a healthy lifestyle, and regular physical activity play a major role in the prevention of health-related diseases.

EAT RIGHT, BE BRIGHT!
